St Clair Carnival and a very important reminder!

16 Dec 2024 by Steve Lindner

Congratulations to all who participated in the St Clair Carnival over the weekend.  It was a great carnival to be involved with and a great learning experience for Coaches and players leading into the break and then the Championship.

However, we have been deeply disturbed by some of the feedback we have received regarding some of our behaviour.  All behaviour is seen negatively towards how we as a club behave on and off court, during games.  Some of the behaviour we have been informed of is nothing short of appalling, and is wasting club people’s time to investigate and apologise to others when we could be concentrating on more beneficial activations for the club.

This behaviour will not be tolerated in the Championship season and we will have no hesitation in implementing penalties, to players and parents should it continue. This is your final warning.

NO coaching from the sidelines – takes away the autonomy of the players decision making and often contradicts what the coach is asking for. Kids don’t need 7 different voices telling them what to do and only HURTS there development in the LONG RUN. Not to mention the disrespect it shows towards the coach.

NEVER approach a coach straight after a game. wait until the next day. emotions are high, kids and parents are around the place and kids should NEVER witness a parent going off at a coach…EVER!

ANY
issues whatsoever you are to talk to Nathan Humphries and/or go through the proper channels, i.e. email to juniors@lionsbasketball.com.au

St Clair Carnival is an opportunity for coaches to try different things and have a look at different players in different positions – winning is a byproduct.

REFRAIN from talking BAD and /or NEGATIVE about other players on the same team as your kid or kids from the opposing teams. This does no one any good, it builds a TOXIC culture and does no one any good.

ANY abuse towards referees we will be fully supportive of whatever punishments that Basketball SA hand  out to those involved, in South Australia we are already short of referees, so how and player or parent can see abuse of having any benefit to the club, the team or basketball in SA needs to have a good hard look at themselves!

Encourage, Support. Cheer loud and be Respectful!

We want our club to be a place where kids and families want to come to. I really believe this is achievable.

A reminder to everyone of the AGES of these YOUNG DEVELOPING athletes.
